In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. and his quote, “Darkness cannot drive our darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
We decided to gather a few ways you can add an inspirational touch to your work space. Below are four quick changes to get your creative juices flowing.
1.) Color block your minimal space with furniture, art or even a plant. Adding little pops of color will give you a more creative atmosphere and there is science behind color psychology. Two colors in particular provoked interesting reactions and I had to share them.
- Blue- Causes the body to produce calming chemicals and triggers a sense of loyalty. It also makes people more productive.
- Yellow- WARNING- this color has been said to trigger tempers in people and more babies cry in yellow rooms than any other color. Although it is considered an optimistic color and may speed up your metabolism and trigger concentration. I would recommend using it sparingly as it is a lot for an eye to take in.
2.) Add a standing desk option. Slumping in a chair can slow down your metabolism and reduce your calorie burn to a third of the rate. Sitting or standing in moderation is ideal, so adding a standing desk will just help you find a routine that works best for you. When you actively decide to choose healthy choices, your self-esteem is higher- clearing out wasted energy on negative thoughts thus opening up more space for inspiration and creativity.
3.) Less Clutter. Fewer Distractions. We suggest getting a unique filing system. Everyone has a square-shaped filing cabinet, where is the fun in mediocre office furniture. When you increase your physical space by giving things a proper home on your desk or in a drawer/cabinet, you’ll notice when it is not where it should be. Keeping tidy makes the mind focus on order and what is to be expected. Where as a mess equals stress and who wants that?
4.) Add wallpaper or a Mural on one wall. Creating this personal touch and visual divider will stimulate a more inspirational working space…depending on what you put up there. Don’t expect wallpaper with gravestones to enlighten your creative thinking. We suggest adding something that pertains to your hobbies or reminds you of a place you’re able to relax and let your mind be open to anything.
There are plenty of other ways to create an inspirational working environment, these are just a few. If you have quick tips that you have used to spruce up your workplace, please share them with us on Facebook or Twitter.
